Dialetical Behavior Therapy(DBT)
A balance of acceptance and change
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment that was developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan in the 1990s. When Dr. Linehan was first developing DBT, she had planned to develop a treatment specifically for people with suicidal behaviors. In her heart, she dedicated her life to help those who were in immense suffering and, figured, who could be suffering more than those who were suicidal? Since then, the treatment evolved to be an evidence-based treatment for individuals meeting criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and is used to treat individuals with difficulties managing their emotions. DBT incorporates a blend of behavioral strategies and acceptance-based strategies to help clients achieve a life they perceive worth living. It embraces a non-judgmental, compassionate stance and is based on the assumption that our clients are doing the best they can.
Standard DBT is a 12-month treatment that consists of weekly individual DBT, weekly group skills training, client phone coaching, and therapist team consultation.
